"Teachers of children
in the United States of America
wrote this date on blackboards everywhere
and asked the children to memorize it with pride and joy:

1492

The teachers told the children
that this was the date the continent was discovered by human beings.
Actually, millions of human beings
were leading full and imaginative lives on the continent in 1492.
That was simply the date sea pirates came to cheat and rob and kill them."

New KV book Jul. 18th, 2009 @ 01:35 pm

We all know Kurt Vonnegut is gone. But that's no reason to stop publishing his work, is it?

A new book, titled, Look at the Birdie, consisting of previously unpublished short stories will hit stores on October 20, 2009.

I will have to check it out. I know that it's probably just one way to cash in on KV's fame but I can't help myself. I must read everything that Vonnegut has ever written.

Will you be reading it/buying it?

» Fox News Obituary Trashes Kurt Vonnegut
(crossposted to conservatism and book_worm; REJECTED by moderator of liberal)

I never really realized that conservatives hated Kurt Vonnegut as some kind of liberal icon until I saw the Fox News obituary of Kurt Vonnegut broadcast the day after his death. This news story seemed inordinately harsh to me, but, because I may be especially sensitive as a big Vonnegut fan, I've uploaded some clips from the Fox News obituary for you to see and decide for yourself in my latest 3 minute 10 second YouTube video at:

In case anyone's interested, I tracked down the origin of that ancient Greek admonition "Not to speak evil of the dead" to Diogenes Laertius quoting Chilon (pictured at the beginning of this video) quoting Aesop at: http://www.classicpersuasion.org/pw/diogenes/dlchilon.htm

Also, this video qualifies as the latest addition to my "Fox News Bias" playlist you can see on YouTube at: Fox News Bias

Finally, as always, I appreciate all feedback :-)

» Vonnegut in Indianapolis
So...Vonnegut is speaking in Indianapolis (info here: http://www.imcpl.org/events/yearofvonnegut/yovevents.html) and I live in Cleveland and can't possibly get to the box office tomorrow in time to get there...work and such. The onsale is at the Clowes Box Office at Butler University and starts at 10am. You can't get them over the phone...you have to be there in person.

Is there anyone who could get an extra ticket for me if they're going to get tickets anyway, or would do a fellow Vonnegutian a favor and pick me up one? They're free...and I'd be indebted for life...I'll even pay for it.

Let me know....e-mail me at sarzone @ gmail . com or post a message on here...I'm dying to go!

I'm crossposting this to a few Vonnegut communities so sorry if you see this more than once!
